#Resilient Kurilpa

We live around a river. It floods here.

@resilientkurilpa is a network of people from the community who work with residents to increase flood preparedness and resilience on the Kurilpa Peninsula of West End, Highgate Hill and South Brisbane.

I collaborated with Paula Hardie to create a logo for the project.

The artwork includes an apartment next door to a Queenslander; demonstrating the mix of dwellings in the area and how they co-exist within the curve of the Brown Snake. Both the apartment and home shows silhouettes of the people that exist within them.

I don’t think I intended it to be so, but I gave the river a lot texture, which could be interpreted as having a ferocity and a life of its own during weather events and also showcases all the debris and general crap we see floating in the water.

To support Resilient Kurilpa, read about what they do and/or contribute to their Flood Library with your own stories.

4101 will likely have more floods. With the fantastic work of Resilient Kurilpa, we will hopefully all be more ready.
