#10 Torbreck
My illustration of Torbreck is now hanging in the building’s ‘Chemist Shop’. The original plans for the high rise were ambitious and the ‘Chemist Shop’, next to the main entrance was never used as it was originally intended.
In 2018 it became host to a small exhibition with a couple of other amazing local artists, including me! The poster for the exhibition is below. Until then I didn’t really appreciate how iconic Torbreck is. At one point it was one of the tallest buildings in Brisbane and its Art Deco design sets it apart from modern high rises today.
This drawing is all thanks to a wonderful photographer who captured Torbreck through some red tins roofs and banana trees. It’s a view of the garden block side.
Key Features
Banana leaves, red tin roofs, and the observation deck (amazing view if you ever manage to get an invite).
